US Restaurant Allergen Disclosure After California's ADDE Act

There is still no nationwide rule putting allergens beside every dish. California just changed what that means for large operators, and it named QR menus specifically.

En resumen

  • California's ADDE Act (SB-68) took effect on 1 July 2026 and covers restaurants with 20 or more locations nationally.

  • It permits disclosure in a digital format such as a QR code -- but only if a print option is also offered to the customer.

  • The US list is nine allergens, not the EU's fourteen. An operator in both markets needs both, and the gaps are not small.

  • Below 20 locations you are outside the California rule and still inside the same guest expectation. The disclosure is worth building either way.
