Static vs Dynamic QR Codes for Restaurant Menus

The difference is one line of technical detail and several hundred pounds a year of printing. Here is how to work out which.

Kurz gefasst

  • A static code stores the destination inside the pattern. Changing the destination means a new code, which means a new print run.

  • A dynamic code stores a short redirect. The printed square is permanent and what it points at is not.

  • Dynamic codes also scan better: a short URL makes a less dense pattern, which matters at table-tent size in a dim room.

  • The reprint maths almost always decides it. Work out your cost per table and multiply by how often your menu really changes.
